Wii Motion Plus & Wii Sports Resort

Wii Motion Plus

Nintendo have revolutionised the way the Wii remote control works with the addition of the Wii MotionPlus. The small device clips to the bottom of the remote and adds a further dimension to game-play. The Wii MotionPlus has an inbuilt gyroscope, which together with the Wii remote’s already built-in accelerometer, and the external sensor bar enables more sensitive and accurate tracking of a game player’s arm position.

Rather than being limited to the usual 3d movements in the X, Y and Z axis, the Wii MotionPlus measures rotational movement too. This type of technology has never been incorporated in video game technology before and will set the Wii apart from all other game consoles.

The new sensor provides a 1:1 mapping of a user’s motion which is accurately rendered on the screen. The specifications boast measurements between 500 to 2000 degrees per second. This sort of precision adds realism to activities such as throwing Frisbees and swinging golf clubs.

Wii Sport Resort

Released on 24th July 2009 is Wii Sports Resort, the sequeal to the ever popular Wii Sports. Wii Sports Resort comes complete with the Wii Motion Plus. The background is set on a tropical island and offers a range of games including Power Cruising which involves racing a jet-ski, Disc Dog and Sword Play.

Disc Dog will have you throwing a Frisbee for friendly Fido to catch. The more accurate you are the higher the score – no buttons needed for this one, it’s all in the wrist action !

Holding the Wii remote and nunchuk in a handle bar fashion forms the basis of Power Cruising. A twist of the wrist has you hurtling across the sea with the aim of accurately negotiating your way through a series of gates.

Sword Play’s ability to play in split screen mode will have you and your opponent lunging, swinging and flailing your arms around next to each other in your efforts for victory.

Game developers will be no doubt working overtime to make use of the advanced features of the Wii MotionPlus, and a myriad of new game titles are sure to appear.
